چکیده

The main approach to get into these objectives is to define an ontology algebra to deal with the main object type (ontologies) but as well other objects we will want to reuse (thesauri, taxonomies and word lists). This ontology algebra includes these major operators: • translation: add a new language to a thesaurus which does not include it; • inversion: take a thesaurus which has a specific base language and other languages and change its base language to one of the available languages; • completion: definition of a set of rules to be able to auto-complete the ontology, like inversion rules (specify that two relations are inverses one of the other) and forward-chaining rules. • assimilation and joining thesaurus: take different sources thesaurus and join term properties, as well as treat ambiguities and different concepts identified by the same term. • publishing: produce views or ways to browse and search the ontology created.

A Suite of Semantic Web Tools Supporting Development of Multilingual Ontologies

The multilingual aspects which characterize the (Semantic) Web and the constant demand for more understandable and easy-to-share forms of knowledge representation, push for a more “linguistically aware” approach to ontology development and foresees an environment where formal semantics could coexist with natural language, contributing to improve “shareability” of the content they describe. As a...

Ontologies At Work: Publishing Multilingual Recreational Routes Using Ontologies

Even though there is nothing new about the idea, ontologies are a hot topic. Built for many reasons and appliances, the use of ontologies in real-life applications remains limited. The WalkOnWeb project has developed ontologies in the area of recreational routing and applied them in a real application. This demonstration will show these applications and explain how they use ontologies. With the...

A multilingual knowledge management system: A case study of FAO and WAICENT

This paper provides a case study of a multilingual knowledge management system for a large organization. In so doing we elicit what it means for a system to be “multilingual” and how that changes some previous research on knowledge management. Further, some researchers have viewed multilingual as meaning a multilingual user interface. However, that is only a small part of the story. In this cas...

Multilingual and Localization Support for Ontologies

This demo proposal aims at providing support for the localization of ontologies, and as a result at obtaining multilingual ontologies. We briefly present an advanced version of LabelTranslator, our system to localize ontology terms in different natural languages. The current version of the system differs from previous works reported in [1, 2] in that it relies on a modular approach to store the...

Modelling Multilinguality in Ontologies

Multilinguality in ontologies has become an impending need for institutions worldwide with valuable linguistic resources in different natural languages. Since most ontologies are developed in one language, obtaining multilingual ontologies implies to localize or adapt them to a concrete language and culture community. As the adaptation of the ontology conceptualization demands considerable effo...
